Comedian Craig Robinson Announces Shift from Comedy
Is this for real?
Craig Robinson, who many remember for his role as Daryl Philbin in “The Office,” surprised fans with an announcement about stepping back from his comedy career to pursue what he calls “the true calling.” He shared this news, seemingly relaxed, in an Instagram reel on June 29.
“I’m officially quitting comedy and focusing on real calling,” he stated simply. “Look, I’m working on something huge.”
This week, Robinson shared two enigmatic posts on Instagram discussing his departure from comedy. However, he didn’t go into specifics about what he plans to do next.
“It was an amazing run, and you all have made it memorable, but I’m following something bigger,” he expressed on Sunday.
On Monday, he uploaded another Instagram reel. He appeared to be in the same white shirt as before and noted that his plans had not unfolded as expected.
“Dreaming and building a business with friends are two very different things,” he remarked in the second update.
The Chicago native, also noted for his role in “Pineapple Express,” asked his followers for business advice, implying he might need support for whatever venture he’s embarking on.
“I can’t go into detail yet, but honestly, any help would be huge,” Robinson added.
Fans seem a bit puzzled—some are questioning whether he’s truly retiring from comedy or if this is part of an elaborate joke. One fan commented, “Yeah, we haven’t failed because of that,” referring to his initial announcement.
Despite his statements, Robinson has numerous stand-up shows scheduled across the country until November.
He gained prominence by appearing in various sitcoms like “Friends” and “The Bernie Mac Show” before his breakout role in “The Office” back in 2005, which garnered the cast five Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for outstanding performances by an ensemble.
Since then, Robinson has remained busy with numerous projects and was even nominated for the 2024 Daytime Emmy Awards for hosting “Harlem Globetrotters: Play It Forward.”
In a similar vein, another comedian, George Lopez, recently announced his departure from comedy following his final special, which premiered in February 2025. In an interview, he stated, “I was thoroughly exposed to the American people.”
