Creators of 'South Park' criticize the Paramount-Skydance merger as a chaotic mess that is damaging the show.

South Park Season 27 is in a bit of limbo due to the ongoing merger between Skydance and Paramount. As a result, fans can expect delays in the new season’s premiere, much to the annoyance of creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

Parker and Stone have referred to the merger as a “sit show,” suggesting that the whole situation is quite chaotic for the upcoming season.

Comedy Central has now announced that the season will debut on Wednesday, July 23rd, but the delay has stirred up some strong reactions. The South Park team took to X to express their frustration. The delay has really drawn attention.

In response to a press release regarding the postponed premiere, Parker and Stone stated, “This merger is a sit show and a shit in South Park. We’re in the studio working on a new episode.”

The merger between Skydance and Paramount is still awaiting federal approval from the FCC, with significant negotiations surrounding the transaction involved.

Amidst this, Paramount+, the company’s streaming service, continues to struggle. They still have two years remaining in a $900 million digital rights agreement, as reported.

Meanwhile, Parker and Stone have leveled accusations against Paramount’s president-elect, Jeff Shell, claiming he has interfered in contract negotiations with Warner Bros Discovery and Netflix, and they are contemplating legal action over these claims.

The team suggests that Shell is overstepping his bounds in discussions that should not involve him, solely for the benefit of Paramount’s interests regarding South Park.

A letter from South Park Digital Studios stated, “We request that you, Redbirds and Skydance, immediately cease your interference. Should these activities persist, we will have no choice but to take action to protect our rights and obligations.”

Furthermore, they claim that Shell lacks the authority to modify proposals from future counterparts of SPDS in a way that undermines their value.
