Crew Member Passes Away After Falling Overboard On Largest Cruise Ship

A Royal Caribbean crew member tragically died at sea while on board a cruise ship on Thursday.

Rescue teams responded to the situation when alerted, but, sadly, they found that he did not survive, as reported by TMZ. A spokesperson for Royal Caribbean confirmed this heartbreaking news.

“Our crew acted quickly to initiate a search and rescue effort, but unfortunately, it was too late. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the crew and their families. At this time, we cannot share further details to honor their privacy,” the representative stated.

Social media accounts from passengers on the ship claimed that the crew member had jumped overboard, although Royal Caribbean has not verified this or revealed the exact circumstances behind the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.

The ship, Icon of the Seas, was sailing near Cocokei during the event. Passengers were expected to enjoy a weekly cruise in the Caribbean, with plans to return to Miami by July 26th.

The identity and age of the crew member who went overboard have yet to be disclosed. Icon of the Seas is currently the largest cruise ship in operation, measuring around 1,198 feet in length and weighing about 280,500 tons—making it roughly five times larger than the Titanic, according to BBC.

This incident follows closely behind a previous alarming event where a 5-year-old girl fell from a Disney cruise ship. Thankfully, her father managed to leap in after her and they both escaped without injury, according to officials and reports.
