In a recent conversation with “VOGUE,” the Portuguese footballer shared some personal insights about his wedding to Georgina Rodríguez, stating, “This is probably the last year of my football career.”
He elaborated, saying, “I want to leave a significant legacy.” There are so many aspects of life that I need to occupy my time with. Football, it’s… well, it can create a big gap when you step away, so I have to find various ways to stay engaged.”
Ronaldo also touched on enjoying life beyond soccer, mentioning his interest in traveling more, and playing padel, a sport he’s passionate about. “I need to relish what I have, what we have,” he added. “After all, it’s been 25 years filled with sacrifices.”
This revelation is significant for Ronaldo, especially since his contract with Al Nasr extends until June 2027, marking a notable moment since this summer’s FIFA World Cup in the U.S.
After Portugal’s defeat to Spain in the Round of 16, he stated that it would be his last World Cup but remained noncommittal about his complete retirement from football. “That day will come,” Ronaldo acknowledged, “I mean it, no matter how things go on Monday. I can walk away with a clear conscience—no, not just clear, but 1000% satisfied. I’ve dedicated myself to soccer entirely. I don’t need it for a living; I play because of my love for the game… I have to enjoy every single day. Scoring three goals in this World Cup? Not too shabby, right?”
As a 41-year-old billionaire, according to Forbes, this World Cup marked a significant milestone for Ronaldo, who had never clinched any major title on this grand stage before.
It’s worth noting that he won’t participate in the 2030 World Cup, which will take place in Spain and Morocco, thus concluding his international career that started back in 2006.
In the recent tournament, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star netted three goals.
“It was amazing,” he reflected on the experience. “It transcends just being on the field… This has been the most unforgettable World Cup for me because of the audience’s passion. This time around was even more special, emotionally speaking. I’ve experienced it thoroughly.”
Following the tournament, Ronaldo married Georgina Rodríguez on August 11th.
The couple arranged a cozy wedding in their living room in Cascais, Portugal, attended by their five children.
Rodríguez shared with Vogue that they opted for a small ceremony before the main wedding, aiming to do something more “unusual” for their families.
