Cristobal Del Solar shoots 57 to set new PGA-sanctioned event record

Cristobal del Solar has a bit of golf history with his opening round score at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Astara Golf Championship.

Del Solar shot a 13-under 57 on Thursday at Country Club de Bogotá Pacos in Bogotá, Colombia, marking his lowest round in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event.

The Chilean golfer made par on the final hole of the day, but just missed a 6-foot shot that would have earned him a 56.

Del Solar shot a 27 on the first nine holes of the day and a 30 on the back nine.

The course itself proved to be a big help on Thursday, with wet conditions from rain earlier in the week, allowing players to lift, clean and place their balls under the Preferred Lie rule. did it.

The course itself is a short play at 6,254 yards.

“[There were] There were a lot of holes you could drive. It’s not drivable, but it’s within 20 yards of the green,” said Del Solar, 30. According to ESPN. “I didn’t necessarily get on the green, but I was close to the green. The course was definitely set up for low scores.”

But understandably, he didn’t expect to shoot as well as he did Thursday.

“Now, when you go to a course like this, you don’t think, ‘I’m going to shoot a 57.’ You just go out there and do your best and hope your score is very low. Of course, you still have to do it. No,” del Solar added.

The memorable day also tied the lowest round in a professional tournament, originally set by Ireland’s David Carey in 2019 when he shot an 11-under 57.

The previous Korn Ferry Tour record was 58 points, set by Germany’s Stefan Jaeger at the 2016 Ellie Mae Classic at TPC Stonebrae in Hayward, California.
