Criticism aimed at the DOJ regarding the Bolton raid: Trump is 'the actual wrongdoer'

Wall Street Journal Critiques Attack on Bolton’s Home

The Wall Street Journal condemned the recent attack on John Bolton’s residence, describing it as part of a “Vendetta Campaign” orchestrated by President Trump. Bolton, who previously served as the president’s national security adviser, has been in conflict with Trump since leaving office.

While law enforcement contended that Bolton’s investigation pertained to classified materials at his home in Bethesda, Maryland, the Journal suggested that the real motive was political retaliation.

According to the publication, “This attack is difficult to interpret as anything but vindictive. Bolton lost Trump’s favor during his first term and went on to write a book detailing his time in the White House, which was published despite Trump’s objections.” This refers to Bolton’s 2020 memoir.

The Journal accused Trump of seeking revenge, particularly highlighting Bolton’s recent critiques of the president’s foreign policy, including claims that Trump was unduly influenced by Russian President Vladimir Putin. This criticism appears to have prompted the federal probe, according to the editorial.

It noted, “Bolton has rarely breached national secret laws. His long relationship with Trump, however, seems to have made him a target.” The article suggested that the legal process might serve as a form of punishment for Bolton, regardless of whether any charges are filed.

Furthermore, the Journal pointed out the financial and emotional toll on Bolton, mentioning that he has to deal with legal fees and concerns about his family’s safety due to the federal investigation.

During the operation on Friday, law enforcement raided Bolton’s home while he was at work and seized his wife’s phone. Vice President Vance claimed that the investigation was not politically motivated, stating, “Unlike the Biden administration, our law enforcement is guided by law, not politics.” He made these remarks during an interview with MSNBC.

In response to the situation, Trump stated that he was unaware of the incident involving Bolton’s home and expressed confidence in avoiding legal troubles associated with Attorney General Pam Bondy’s actions.

This was not the first clash between Trump and the Journal; just weeks prior, Trump had initiated a lawsuit against the publication over an article suggesting he had sent a controversial birthday card to the late Jeffrey Epstein, further labeling the Journal’s credibility as questionable.
