Critics challenge Meghan Markle's $2,288 retreat for women in Australia

Meghan Markle is set to lead a luxury women’s retreat in Australia, but some critics are raising concerns about the high ticket prices and the intentions behind her participation. The retreat, part of her podcast “Her Best Life,” aims to deliver a blend of engaging discussions, relaxation, and memorable experiences. Attendees can choose between a VIP experience priced at about $2,288 or an early bird ticket option costing around $1,930.

According to event host Gemma O’Neill, she plans to engage Markle in a discussion during the event. O’Neill mentioned that Markle’s involvement was initiated by a mutual friend, highlighting Markle’s affinity for the community aspect of the retreat.

Despite this, opinions about the event are mixed. The gala dinner, advertised as an interactive conversation with Markle, will offer VIP guests a chance to pose for pictures with her and receive goodie bags, alongside access to ocean-view accommodations.

One royal commentator, Ian Pelham Turner, shared that this could be a unique chance for guests to connect with Markle on a personal level. He noted her long history of charitable work, suggesting that this event might showcase a more relatable side of the Duchess.

However, some branding experts are skeptical about Markle’s current ventures. Doug Eldridge from Achilles PR pointed out that while Markle embraces titles like ‘entrepreneur’ or ‘founder,’ maintaining credibility requires proven success. He referenced her inconsistent career trajectory, including stagnant acting opportunities and unresolved Netflix projects, suggesting more upkeep with her public image is needed.

Kinsey Schofield, a host for a YouTube show, remarked that Markle’s and Prince Harry’s upcoming appearances in Australia seem to lean toward the commercial rather than the royal. Harry is set to speak about mental health at a summit while Markle has been positioned as the main attraction at a pricey resort, where guests can enjoy fancy dinners and deliberate conversations with her.

Some royal analysts draw parallels between Markle’s current initiatives and the commercial pursuits of Sarah Ferguson in the ’90s, suggesting a similar pattern of leveraging royal titles for business ventures. There’s speculation that public reception might not match the fervor seen during their previous visit in 2018, anticipating more of a curious rather than excited audience.

A British broadcaster, Helena Chard, observed that the retreat underscores Markle’s declining status, calling the event rather low-profile compared to prior endeavors. She suggested it doesn’t carry a charitable element, highlighting its focus on financial gain instead.
