Critics are enraged after Lily Allen admitted she returned her dog to a shelter after it ate her passports.
The famous singer and actress confessed to giving up her family pet on the “Miss Me?” podcast Thursday. She told fans she took her puppy Mary to an animal shelter because she was upset that the dog chewed up her passports. Presumably speaking about her decision to adopt the pet with her husband, David Harbour, Allen said, “We actually did adopt a dog together already- but then it ate my passport, so I took it back to the home.” She went on to explain what happened, and fans immediately took to social media calling her “a selfish nasty woman.”

Allen, who is the mother of daughters Ethel, 12, and Marnie, 11, with ex Sam Cooper, explained what led her to make the decision to give up the family dog.
“She ate all three of our passports,” she said.
“They had our visas in [there], and I can’t tell you how much it cost to get everything replaced,” Allen said.
“It was in COVID, so it was just an absolute logistical nightmare.”

She went on to say, “the father of my children lives in England. I couldn’t get them back to see their dad for, like, four months [or] five months because this fucking dog had eaten the passports.”
Allen continued ranting about the dog, and the more she spoke, the deeper she dug herself into a hole with fans. She said she “couldn’t look at” the dog anymore, and said the pup “ruined [her] life.”
“The passports weren’t the only thing she ate. She was a very badly behaved dog,” Allen said.
Her actions enraged a number of online users that trashed the star online. Many of them were put off by her comments and a number of people reminded the star that she was to blame if she had left the passports out where a dog could reach them.
Dogs returned to shelters often become harder to rehome and are at higher risk of being euthanised.
Training dogs is easy. Dogs are NOT ‘badly behaved’ – they are ‘untrained’ by the humans that are responsible for them.
This is a sad listen.
