Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) doubled down on her support for President Biden amid growing calls for him to withdraw, warning against his reelection because former President Trump is “only thinking about himself.”
Crockett Participated On Saturday, MSNBC’s Katie Pan will discuss Biden’s poor debate performance and the impact of a growing number of House Democrats calling for him to resign.
The Texas lawmaker said Democrats calling for the president to resign speaks more about their fear of Trump than Biden’s character.
“Whatever your position, the one thing we all have in common is fear,” she said. “Fear that Donald Trump will somehow return to the White House, or fear that the Supreme Court will undoubtedly get even worse… or fear just because we know the reality of what they’re asking for with Project 2025.”
“So all I ask of you is to just unite behind the nominee, and as of now the nominee is Biden-Harris,” Crockett continued. “As long as the president says he can do the job, that’s our nominee.”
As of Saturday afternoon, five of Crockett’s Democratic colleagues in the House had called on Biden to resign, arguing that Vice President Harris or other Democratic leaders stand a better chance of challenging Trump in this fall’s elections.
Biden and his campaign have spent much of this week trying to win back voters. In his first on-camera interview since the debate, Biden insisted Friday that he was in it to win and had no plans to quit.
Either way, Crockett urged Democrats to “stay the course.”
“Let’s recognize who our real enemies are,” she said. “Let’s not attack each other and feed the Republican Party in November.”
