Crockett says GOP colleagues gave her a ‘thumbs up, winks’ after Greene tiff

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) suggested Friday that several of her Republican colleagues approved of and even gave her a “thumbs up” for her handling of last week’s dust-up with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).

When asked by MSNBC host Joy Reid about the altercation and working with Greene, Crockett said it was “totally counterproductive.”

“She’s showing the world who she is, and the fact that the Republican Party continues to defend her says a lot about who they are,” she said. In an interview “Now it seems like they want to cut ties with her, but the reality is, by not keeping an eye on her, they’re basically being complicit in what she does.”

“I definitely got thumbs ups and winks and comments from the other side, people like, ‘I love your eyelashes,’ and ‘Look, no one’s defending her,'” she added later in the interview. “And people were just complimenting me.”

The exchange comes in connection to a House Oversight Committee hearing last week that descended into chaos when Greene accused Crockett of wearing “fake eyelashes,” a comment that was slammed by many on the left for its racial overtones and which Crockett reiterated on Friday.

“My colleagues don’t seem to understand that there are people out there who are diverse and well-qualified,” she told Reid, “and that’s why you have people like me who are very frustrated, not just in Congress but across this country.”

Greene’s comments veered into a debate about whether the remarks should be kept private. Later in the proceedings, Crockett asked leaders what kinds of remarks would be considered a violation of parliamentary protocol.

“If somebody on this committee starts talking about somebody’s bleach-blond, bad-ass, manly body, that’s not a character attack, is it?” Crockett said, presumably as a dig at the fervent Georgia Republican.

Greene, a Texas Democrat, has since trademarked the phrase “bleach blonde bad boy physique” and has been raising money by selling merchandise. In response to the ridicule, Greene posted workout videos online in which she defended her “sculpted and strong” physique.

“Yes, my body is toned and strong through a healthy lifestyle, not through plastic surgery or silicone,” the 49-year-old congressman said. Written on Monday On social media platform X.
