Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) said Monday that former President Trump would “lose” if he attends the Sept. 10 debate with Vice President Harris.
Crockett said on MSNBC that he doesn't expect the former president to take part in the presidential debate hosted by ABC News.
“But if he shows up, he's going to be done in no time, so I'll be rooting for him either way,” Crockett said. “Whether he cowers in a corner or shows up and gets on fire, I don't care.”
Doubts have been swirling in recent days about whether next month's debate will take place, with candidates seemingly disagreeing over whether to mute their microphones.
The Harris campaign has insisted on using live microphones throughout the broadcast, deviating from rules agreed to when Biden was the front-runner.
President Trump said Monday that it doesn't matter if the microphone is muted.
“You know, our deal was to keep the rules the same. And now all of a sudden she wants to change the rules because she can't answer questions. … Why can't she do what I'm doing now? She can't talk. We can't have another idiot as our president,” Trump said. He told reporters Falls Church, Virginia.
But President Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with ABC News this week, saying he wanted a “fair debate” and that the network “really should be shut down.”
“NBC is much better. CBS is much better. Frankly, I think CBS is very unfair, but they're the best of the group. Of course I'll do it on Fox, I'll do it on CNN. I think CNN treated us very fairly last time,” Trump said.
Crockett was seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party, especially after his clash with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) at a House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing earlier this year, which led to the infamous alliteration that described Crockett as “bleach blonde, ugly, manly-bodied.”
Crockett became a messenger for the Biden-Harris campaign and used the phrase in its promotional materials. Since switching candidates, she has remained an outspoken and fervent supporter of Harris, even speaking at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago last week.
Crockett said Republicans want Trump to “shut up” and “go golf.”
“Every time he opens his mouth, the truth comes out, and the truth is not a pretty thing,” she said. “The truth is tied to his Project 2025 agenda. The truth is tied to his history of discriminating against people of color on housing issues and what he wants to do with the Central Park Five.” [hanged].”
“The truth would only hurt him,” Crockett continued, “so they want him to shut up and let them carry on so they can continue to fool people into thinking that both of these candidates have great things to offer this country. But we know there is only one candidate who is qualified, and there is only one candidate who is interested in moving the country forward, not going back to the Jim Crow days of the 1950s and '60s.”
