It was written all over his face.
A Brazilian prisoner with the words “I'm a thief and a fool” tattooed on his forehead has escaped from prison just days before his release. After his surrender, he was kept in a high-security prison for a long time.
Luan Rocha da Silva, 23, was one of seven inmates who grabbed prison officers and escaped from Belém 1 temporary detention center in Sau Paulo on Christmas Day. Folha de São Paulo reported..
Silva, whose forehead was forcibly tattooed by two previous victims, was just days away from completing a four-year sentence for further theft, the outlet said.
He appeared to regret his decision and surrendered to military police just two days later, the report said.
His striking head tattoo appears to have been mostly hidden or gone, according to a photo of him wearing a Mickey Mouse sweatshirt and cuffs during his recent arrest.
Other photos show that he had some of the ink surgically removed, but some of the writing still remains. It was not immediately clear when he worked to cover it up.
Folha de Sao Paulo said he was outraged that Silva served an extended sentence on Friday in a closed system, Brazil's most restrictive form of imprisonment, but that It was not made clear whether an extension period had been granted.
Silva was forced to get a bizarre ink tattoo on his forehead by two men who tried to rob him in 2017. According to a previous Daily Beast report. Both men served time in prison for causing serious bodily injury and unlawful humiliation, the report said.
Silva was jailed in February 2019 for stealing cellphones and cash from two emergency room workers, according to reports.
He briefly escaped custody in October of that year, but was listed as having “good” behavior before his recent brief escape.
