Cross Season 2 Finale Recap
Time with Alex Cross (Aldis Hodge) in Season 2 has come to a close, and, well, it was quite the finish.
**Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Season 2’s Finale**
At the beginning of Season 2 Episode 8, titled “Quemar,” the intentions of Luz (Janine Mason) regarding Lance Durand (Matthew Lillard) and Nat Gunkers (Lou Jergens) remain uncertain. If she doesn’t manage to take them down, does their illegal activity and the surrounding criminal conspiracy even matter to anyone?
With so much packed into the season, it’s only fitting that the finale be filled with action, and trust me, it doesn’t disappoint. Whether you’ve caught it already and need a recap or want to chat about it with friends, here’s what happened.
Cross Season 2 Finale Breakdown
What will happen with Luz? Will she be able to finish her mission against Lance? And what tough choices lie ahead for Alex?
Does Luz Kill Nat and Lance?
Well, sort of. Luz does manage to take down Nat, who is the last target on her list; however, Alex and his team intervene before she can finish off Lance. In the climax of the episode, Nat suffers what seems to be an allergic reaction and is rushed to the hospital. Luz is waiting for her there and says, “I’m sorry to have kept you waiting, but our time is up.” This leads to a violent confrontation where Luz stabs Nat, leaving her bleeding on the floor. There’s a touching moment where a plaque reveals Luz’s mother worked in the emergency room.
Stopping Luz from Killing Lance
Luz seizes Lance during a roadside stop in Iowa, just as he’s about to launch an important project. She forces him to face the reality of his grave, which, ironically, contains Nat’s body. This spot holds significance for Lance, being the very location tied to his family’s past.
As Lance attempts to reason with her about their similarities, Alex and John (Isaiah Mustafa) arrive to confront Luz. While she has a gun pointed at Lance, a struggle ensues. Though they manage to dig him out, Luz escapes.
How Does Alex Catch Luz?
After receiving a call from Luz, Alex returns to his hideout, determined to bring down Lance. It’s revealed that Aunt Claire (Michelle C. Bonilla) had taken a payout to betray Luz’s mother, information that shocks Luz when she learns the truth during a confrontation at the US-Canada border. In an emotional moment, Claire points a gun at Alex, and Luz realizes that Claire was involved in multiple betrayals. As tension mounts, Alex pleads with Luz to come back, reminding her that she wanted justice.
Is Luz Acquitted?
This is where things take an unexpected turn. Luz’s fate remains uncertain until a dramatic jump off a bridge. Later, she’s glimpsed at a funeral for one of Lance’s victims in Mexico, showing a tattoo that confirms her survival. It’s a twist that seems to defy closure, raising questions about her future. Series creator Ben Watkins noted that Luz’s survival wasn’t part of his initial plan—a thought that many fans might debate.
Why Does Alex Cross Leave His Job?
After witnessing Luz’s presumed suicide and receiving damaging evidence against Lance, Alex’s faith in the system falters. When he learns his superiors won’t pursue charges against Lance, he resigns, placing himself on the run. Alex seeks out Senator Pete Ashford (Josh Peck), hoping to bring the truth to light. When confronted, Ashford withdraws his support for Lance, unveiling a network of corruption that implicates several powerful individuals.
In the final scenes, having been wrongfully detained and later released, Alex tells his boss that he can no longer keep the peace, given the extent of the corruption he’s uncovered. He turns in his badge, leaving the season open-ended. Will he return to military life? There are definitely questions for Season 3.
The first two seasons of Cross are now available for streaming.
