Tragic Shooting at Minneapolis Catholic School

On Wednesday, a tragic shooting took place at Announcement Catholic School in Minneapolis, resulting in the deaths of two children and injuring over a dozen more. The incident happened during the first week of school while children and teachers attended Mass.

According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, the gunman, armed with rifles, shotguns, and pistols, likely did not enter the school building. The two deceased children were aged eight and ten, while 17 others, including 14 children, sustained injuries. O’Hara mentioned that two of these children were in critical condition.

The police chief described the scene, noting that the children were shot while seated. He referred to the incident as “Beyond Understanding,” emphasizing the shocking nature of the violence against innocent kids and those gathered for worship.

“It was a deliberate act of violence against innocent children and other people worshiping,” O’Hara stated.

The suspected shooter, thought to be in his early 20s, reportedly took his own life, and the motive for the shooting remains unclear.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey expressed heartfelt concern for the victims’ families, stating, “These kids were literally praying… They should be able to go to school or church peacefully without the risk of fear or violence.” He also reflected on the unsettling reality of school violence becoming too common in America.

“This kind of evil act should never happen, and it happens too often,” Frey remarked.

“We will stand together to protect our children, our schools, and our places of worship,” O’Hara affirmed.

In light of the tragedy, President Trump reached out to Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz to discuss the situation, urging prayers for everyone affected.
