Reza Pahlavi Prepared to Lead Transition for Iran

Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, an Iranian exile, has expressed his readiness to guide Iran’s transition when the current Islamic Republic government falls. This statement came as Iran’s civil unrest has reached its third week.

Pahlavi, the son of the former King Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, mentioned in a recent social media update that he has been developing a plan to ensure a smooth governance transition amidst the regime’s potential collapse. He indicated that both local and expatriate “competent individuals” have been identified to form what he describes as a “transitional regime.”

In his post, Pahlavi emphasized that this regime would be prepared to take charge of the country’s governance immediately following the regime’s fall, aiming to establish stability and prosperity quickly.

Having lived in exile since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which ousted Iran’s monarchy, Pahlavi has aimed to present himself as a unifying leader for those opposing the current regime. He expressed a commitment to moving Iran from a theocratic system toward democracy.

Pahlavi noted that many fellow countrymen with valuable experience have pledged their willingness to aid in the country’s rebuilding efforts. The remarks come amid significant turmoil, with numerous regime officials reported killed in the context of ongoing military operations involving the U.S. and Israel.

He highlighted the importance of allowing the Iranian populace to choose their leaders through democratic means, insisting that only an entirely new system, free from the current regime’s influence, would be acceptable moving forward.

Pahlavi acknowledged that support from the international community, particularly from democratic nations, would be crucial in facilitating this process of change.
