Vice President Kamala Harris is gaining support in several key battleground states that could decide the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.
Election forecasters at the Cook Political Report and the Center for Politics say the polling average has moved in Harris’ favor by about 3 points. Three state polls have also moved in the Democrat’s favor, with Georgia moving from “Republican edge” to “close race” and Minnesota and New Hampshire moving from “Democrat edge” to “Democrat edge.”
Since President Biden dropped out of the race, Harris has built a large lead over former President Trump, with multiple polls showing her leading Trump in the general election.
Democrats have been enthusiastic about Harris since she became the party’s nominee, but many political analysts say the honeymoon period is likely coming to an end. Harris has already faced harsh criticism for her lack of transparency with the press, and has yet to answer questions from reporters 18 days after Biden withdrew.

She has been busy on the campaign trail, speaking at various events and making informal comments to reporters at various points, but has not given a formal press conference or wide-ranging interview since Biden’s withdrawal.
She also did not attend the National Association of Black Journalists’ convention in Chicago last week, where Trump was the subject of a heated question-and-answer session, but she could attend the group in the future.

She made headlines this week when she chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, though the two have yet to be formally questioned in interviews or at a news conference — a move that has caught the attention of the Republican running mate candidate, Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio.

Vance criticized the media for its lack of aggressiveness toward Harris. At a rally in Detroit, he urged reporters to “show some self-awareness” and called on Harris to “do her job as a presidential candidate” by speaking to reporters.
