It is one of many London derbies as Chelsea make the lengthy journey to Selhurst Park. As it is half-term this week, the travel time should be halved, which will be a relief to the poor old coach driver. Personally, I would just have taken the train from London Bridge to Norwood Junction and walked the rest, but footballers are all prima donnas nowadays so want to travel on a fancy coach with coffee-making facilities.

The two managers, Roy Hodgson and Mauricio Pochettino, are under pressure. Both sets of fans think their respective teams are not reaching their potential. Hodgson is the more likely to receive the chop first but it would seem Palace’s top bosses do not know who would replace him in the dugout. They start the night in 15th place but have not lost in their past three home games, which should give them a little confidence.

Chelsea are still an enigma. Their expensive recruitment policy is yet to show its worth. A whopping billion quid has been spent on a squad that sits 11th and has failed to convince for the majority of the season. On the upside, the Blues put in their best performance last time out when they gave Aston Villa a shooing on their own patch in the FA Cup but their last Premier League outing was a miserable 4-2 home defeat to Wolves.

important events
half an hour: Lerma picked up the loose ball about 25 yards from goal, kicked the ball out from under his feet and into the top corner of the goal. What a goal!
goal! Crystal Palace 1-0 Chelsea (Lerma, 30)
Shit! Did you see that? ! !
28 minutes: Fernandes splits Palace’s defense. The only problem is that when he has the ball, there is no one wearing a pale blue(?) shirt near the ball.
26 minutes: Maduke moved into the box, but turned and returned the ball 30 yards. It’s all a bit of a struggle.
Our man in the game…
Adam Wharton has had an impressive performance for Palace so far. Right now, the outside of the boot path looks nice.he seems very confident

24 minutes: Hughes stole the ball in front of Chelsea’s box and Mateta invaded the area, but his powerful shot hit Petrovic.
Manager Gary Neville believes Palace are aware that Chelsea are quite mediocre.
22 minutes: Despite Chelsea having complete possession of the ball, it is a cause for concern that they have yet to take a shot.
20 min: Gallagher whips into the corner but it bounces off before anyone can touch it and Palace manage to clear.
18 minutes: According to the statistics, Chelsea have had possession of the ball in four-fifths of their matches so far. It’s pretty dominant.
Palace tried their best to fight back, but the pass from Franca hit too hard for Mateta to catch.
16 minutes: Most of Chelsea’s attacks come from the right flank. Gust goes overlapping again, but his cross is collected narrowly by Henderson.
One of Chelsea’s problems is that Jackson, a natural striker, is on the left and Palmer is in the middle. I would argue that Palmer is not much of a threat in the 6-yard box.
14 minutes: Chelsea are trying to solve their problems on the right flank, but Mitchell is dealing well with Maduke.
12 minutes: Hughes was too fast for Fernandes and the midfielder clipped him, giving Palace a free-kick in dangerous possession down the right. Hughes takes it…and Richards meekly flicks it wide.
10 minutes: Palace’s plans seem to include redirecting Thiago Silva, quite directly, due to his considerable age. It might work.
Palace made a clever move and sent the ball to Ayew on the right, but perhaps because Mateta was slow to react, no one reacted to his cross.
8 minutes: Chelsea still have all the ball and Palace are not particularly keen on pressing.
“Mr. Unwin.” says the very formal John Rendall. “As a Palace fan, I’m nervous about tonight’s result. The clouds above Selhurst suggest we’re headed for a pump-up. Please tell me that won’t be the case…
“Enjoy the insights on Football Weekly. Really.”
*blush*. Sadly, the signs are ominous, John.
6 minutes: Free kick for Palace! After the pitch settled and he managed a few touches, Ayew fired a low shot from 20 yards, but it hit the goalkeeper.
4 minutes: Franca reacted to Madueke’s quick feet and fouled him midway into Palace’s half. The free kick was immediately taken by Gusto on the right, but his cross went over everyone. We are still waiting for Palace to touch the ball…
“I think there are bowling similarities to this game.” Peter O was on the brink of death. “Palace is the pin (made of crystal). Chelsea is the (Boehly-ng) ball.
“Time will tell whether that ball will result in a strong strike or a disappointing gutter ball. You can’t tell from Chelsea’s form.”
2 minutes: Chelsea have shown every touch so far tonight. Palace look happy to give them the ball. I don’t know if the home fans will feel the same way.
Richard Hirst’s comment: “As a Fulham supporter, I would normally be rooting for the fervently anti-Chelsea and celebratory Roy, but despite getting the three points on Saturday I still can’t take comfort in it. So unfortunately tonight it’s gloomy. Let’s go.”
1 minute: Dave Bryant emails: “It’s the picture at the top of the blog, but will Mordor be the match tonight?”
*Type “Mordor” into Google* … yes.
kick off
Pee! Pee! Pee! Let’s go!
The team is here!
“I’m not a big fan of Uncle Roy, but I feel some sympathy for him. Palace have one of the weakest teams in the league.” Paul Lowe says. “If you take Eze and Oliseh out, the midfield and the top become just championship. They haven’t had a decent right-back for years, and if Guehi, Anderson and Mitchell are absent, the premiers to replace them None of them are league standard players.
“Of course, if bad Chelsea play tonight, they might still win…”
Joe Pearson emails: “Are there any good Romanian dishes left these days?” I need new cooking ideas. ”
My mother-in-law went home for Christmas, leaving us with enough money to feed our family for a month. I made chicken, bacon, and bean stew for dinner. Unfortunately, there are no leftovers.
I’m thinking about what I can do for pancake day tomorrow…
Monday Night Football will feature Belfast Giants goaltender Petr Cech. Oh my god!
Speaking of Buzz, you can hear him alongside Max, John Brewin and Little Old Me in Football Weekly.
Check out Glendening’s Football Daily about this game.
The question is which manager is under more pressure. My name is Hodgson. I would argue that Palace’s team is less exciting, but perhaps a more dynamic coach would help bring out the best in the available coaches.
Thiago Silva starts for Chelsea. Jacob Steinberg has his eye on a really old centre-back (one of the few players older than me in the Premier League).

Two managers, Roy Hodgson and Mauricio Pochettino, are under pressure. Both fans believe their respective teams are not living up to their potential.
