As I sit down to craft today’s captions, I look up and can hardly believe my eyes—it’s blue skies all around. No clouds. No sticky humidity in sight, and the temperature is in the low 90s. I’m not part of the Pumpkin Spice Latte fan club or anything, but I’m honestly relieved I didn’t have to face the sight of sweat stains on my clothes this morning.

Speaking of unexpected surprises, let’s shift gears to Wrigley Field, where some guys got a bit too rowdy in the bleachers last night. Yes, there was a brawl. Fat Sandburg was also in the mix, and there were definitely some guys who seemed like they wanted to throw down until, well, they didn’t.

Oh, and I should mention that Roman came out on top in that scuffle. You know, I’ve been writing about these stadium skirmishes for about two decades now, and I can tell you—Roman usually wins maybe 3% of the time.

This is on you, Fat Sandburg. If you’re going to talk the talk, you better be prepared to hold your ground.

NFL Insights

If you caught my tweets yesterday, you’d know I was really feeling anxious about what the NFL plans to do with flag football. Apparently, they’re gearing up to make it a big deal leading up to the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. I mean, when I switched on YouTubeTV last night to check out the NFL Network and found it airing flag football just weeks into the season, it really made me cringe.

Then, there’s the U.S. flag soccer team… They just lost to American Samoa after 14 years unbeaten. A shocking moment, indeed.

Also, the Chargers had their own little stunt over the weekend, with the team donned in shirts that read “Everyone Watches Women’s Sports.” It gives you a good glimpse of what kind of activism is happening behind the scenes.

Am I just being paranoid here?

Nike’s Role

The “Everyone Watches Women’s Sports” shirts? They’re actually Nike merchandise. Came from TOGETTHXR, a brand championed by Sue Bird and other athlete-activists. We’ll dive deeper into this group later.

Interestingly, Nike saw a drop in their stocks right after the Chargers’ endorsement. So yeah, interesting times at Nike.

Flight Tracking Enthusiasts

Will from Mississippi chimed in: he uses the FlightRadar24 app to keep tabs on flights. He’s particularly into tracking which planes are flying overhead. He even mentioned a cool website showing the 10 most tracked flights globally, though he suspects an app could do the same.

Dean from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, suggests he thinks Chris B. from Bowling Green should use the app, especially during the annual EAA Aviation Venture in Oshkosh in July. He shared a screenshot from a less busy time when all sorts of aircraft were coming in for landing. It’s quite a sight during the convention.

Then there’s Brad S. who loves the Flight Aware app, having been an aviation enthusiast since childhood (thanks to living next to a 747 captain!). He recently spotted a KLM cargo flight by just looking up. I can imagine that was a nice moment.

John from Indianapolis told me he and his wife enjoy watching planes pass while relaxing outside with drinks. They shout out when they spot flights from Vegas, even late at night. Probably not their best idea, considering it can get loud.

Gary M. has both FlightAware and FlightRadar24, and he prefers the latter, finding it worth the annual fee for more details. He’s currently on a cruise ship over Barcelona, still using the app to track landings.

Brandon from Houston mentioned that he has the app on the front page of his phone, particularly loving the AR feature, which shows all the info about planes flying overhead.

Miscellaneous Thoughts

Then we have this interesting trend about pumpkin spice products. Philly Ray from Minnesota is stunned that Dude Wipes is hopping on that bandwagon. I wonder, do any of you readers actually use those wipes? I’d enjoy hearing about it, though I promise to keep it anonymous.

Mike from Centerville, Ohio shared a thought about future article coverage for the Cincinnati Open, where sports and culture collide. But he can’t wrap his head around paying $105 for a steak, only to eat it with plastic utensils. What’s going on with our common sense? He humorously questioned how anyone could cut steak with plastic cutlery.

All this to say, put common sense back on the menu, right? Just a thought.

Anyway, just kicking things off here. I’m thinking about exploring the notion of NFL flags for an article. Hope you have a fantastic day.
