Chicago Cubs’ Pete Crow Armstrong Fined for Fan Interaction
Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow Armstrong was reportedly fined an undisclosed amount on Saturday following an incident involving Chicago White Sox fans.
The 24-year-old was taunted by fans after a play during the fifth inning of his team’s 8-3 defeat. In response to one female fan’s heckling, he reacted with a crude remark.
“You make my f–ing dk b—- suck,” he told her.
The amount of the fine has not been revealed, but it’s said that Crow Armstrong expressed regret about his choice of words. “The only thing I regret most is my choice of words and who they affected, directly or indirectly, in my life,” he said. He acknowledged that his family wouldn’t typically expect such language from him.
He added, “So I’m just disappointed in the word choice, and I think a lot of little kids are going to end up on social media and maybe seeing it the same way.”
Cubs manager Craig Counsell addressed the situation, emphasizing that interacting with fans is part of a player’s role. “He made a mistake. We have to move on from there,” Counsell remarked before a game against Milwaukee. “Fan interaction happens. Even when it doesn’t, you want to try to keep the fans positive.”
Crow Armstrong is recognized as one of baseball’s top defensive center fielders and was selected for the All-Star team last year. His performance included a batting average of .247 with 31 home runs and 95 RBIs.
However, this season has been less impressive for him. After 49 games, his average stands at .229 with 5 home runs and 20 RBIs.
The Cubs, currently sitting at 29-20, are set to continue their series against the Milwaukee Brewers, who are 28-18, in a game on Wednesday evening.
