Chicago Cubs Kick Off 2026 Season at Wrigley Field

The Chicago Cubs have launched their 2026 season with a six-game homestand at the iconic Wrigley Field. On a chilly Wednesday, as temperatures hovered below 40 degrees, many fans filled the stands, though one particular spectator stood out. Clad in a coat and hat, he seemed to be balancing work on his cell phone and laptop, all while preparing for the 2 p.m. first pitch.

This scene brings back memories of last season, where cameras captured fans working on laptops in shorts during an August match. In a similar vein, this dedicated fan was focused on his computer while the Cubs squared off against the Milwaukee Brewers, even bringing along a mouse.

Broadcasters watching the game had their doubts. “Is this guy actually working?” one wondered aloud. “Or maybe he’s just thinking about his fantasy football lineup?”

The Cubs’ broadcast crew even crafted a cheeky work email that read, “Hello, as per the last email, there has been a sudden shutdown. Let’s be at the base on Friday before the Cubs-Guardians game. Good luck, Marky.”

During the game, the Cubs secured a 6-2 victory against the Los Angeles Angels, with Matthew Boyd striking out ten batters, showcasing a strong performance on the mound. The win marked the Cubs taking two out of three games in the series.

As for the Cubs, they’ll enjoy a day off on Thursday, before heading to Cleveland for a three-game series against the Guardians.
