A recent trip to McDonald’s took a surprising turn when an exotic snake was found at the drive-thru in North Carolina over the weekend.
Talena Chavis, who goes by the title of NC Snake Catcher, received a call on Saturday afternoon about a non-native snake at a local McDonald’s. According to the couple who reported it, another customer had discovered the snake under the drive-thru window, then placed it in a box after moving it from another spot nearby.
The couple initially thought the snake was a python.
Chavis and her husband quickly responded, saying they would handle the situation.
“It’s really great that they stepped in,” Chavis remarked. “I think they played a big part in ensuring the snake came out alright.”
Upon arrival, she opened the box only to discover it was a boa constrictor, not a python. This was her first call in nearly a decade involving a boa.
“We honestly didn’t expect to find something this exotic,” she noted, adding, “It’s not that large.”
This marked the first time McDonald’s had reached out to Chavis for snake removal.
Chavis shared that she encounters non-native snake species approximately every three months.
She estimated the boa to be just shy of four feet in length and believed it to be female.
The snake was relatively docile, seemed healthy, and likely hadn’t been in the wild for long.
She speculated that it might have been abandoned or lost by someone who no longer resided nearby.
The couple had attempted to contact local animal control before finding Chavis’s information online.
“They were like guardian angels for that snake,” Chavis remarked about the couple, adding that things might not have turned out as well otherwise.
Despite hopes of finding the snake’s owner, no one came forward after a few days of searching.
Eventually, one of Chavis’s employees decided to adopt the boa.
