“I’m here! I’m here!”
A family of Canadian geese got some help from police as they made their way across a Dutch tunnel, though not all the passing drivers seemed to notice the adorable scene.
A video shows the mother and father goose leading six fluffy goslings across the roadway on the New Jersey side of the tunnel on Sunday, while a helpful Port Authority officer stopped traffic to ensure their safety.
Officer Ray Raynes stood in the middle of the road, guiding the feathered family in the right direction. “They followed my orders,” he shared, mentioning that such detours for wildlife aren’t all that unusual this time of year.
The entire delay lasted only about five minutes, but there were still plenty of frustrated honks from drivers. One could be heard shouting, “Come!” in the video.
Interestingly, some observers found the situation surprisingly entertaining. One videographer remarked it was “the most entertaining thing I’ve ever seen,” while another said, “If there’s a reason to be late, that’s it!”
Once they were safely back on their way, the family’s next destination remained unclear. They strayed from their typical routes, possibly heading towards construction areas near 14th Avenue and Washington Boulevard.
Every spring, locals keep an eye out for roaming goslings. These geese can travel up to two miles from their nesting sites to breeding grounds. Goslings, unable to fly for their first two months, must waddle along, but that won’t stop them from braving through busy traffic.
This little episode serves as a reminder of how a small act of kindness can truly make a significant impact.
