On Bloomberg’s “Balance of Power,” Rep. Nicole Mario Takis (R-NY) said the decline in federal repayment rates for Medicaid in the state, as 50% of New York are off the table for her and several House Republicans.
“Well, what we saw is the menu of options. And we’re talking about the whole energy and healthcare portfolio. It’s not just Medicaid. It’s obviously dealing with regulations, broadband sales, and it’s dealing with other components.
She continued. “In the Medicaid work, we made it very clear to the speaker, the chairman of this committee, and the President of the US. We made it clear that there are groups that don’t support a declining package. Disability, pregnant women are the people we really focus on. That’s $500 billion in 10 years. So when we’re looking for a savings of around $880 billion over a decade, that’s what we’re going to save. So, for example, when we’re looking for a state’s refund rate in New York, we’re going to save. So, it’s really clear that we won’t allow 50% federal rebates. So, that’s one of the things we pushed back, and it’s also the cap for each and every person in traditional Medicaid, and that’s what we said to us as well. And we got positive feedback from the speaker and a commitment that they wouldn’t touch on those things.”
