Tragic Christmas Murder of CVS Clerk

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — Eddie Sine Jr., a 23-year-old who aspired to be a computer engineer, was fatally stabbed just before the end of his shift while working as a clerk at a CVS in Lindenhurst, New York, on Christmas Day.

According to Suffolk County police, the attack occurred around 7 p.m., when, tragically, an armed robber took Eddie’s life.

The suspect, 43-year-old John Piraccio, has been charged with first-degree murder, a more severe charge than that faced by a similar case involving a New York City assassin.

During a press conference, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney stated that Piraccio, after his arrest, admitted the robbery was the motive for the crime and mentioned drinking Gatorade as a side note of the incident.

Witnesses say Piraccio demanded money unprovoked, then stabbed Eddie in the chest before jumping over the counter to stab him again. Later, he fled the scene. He reportedly told investigators that he was $25,000 in credit card debt.

Tierney noted that Piraccio has a history of violence, including an attack with a tire iron two decades ago, and had recently been released from parole.

“Our parole system has really become a joke,” Tierney remarked, pointing out recent laws that make it hard to contain repeat offenders.

Emergency responders arrived immediately, but despite their efforts, Eddie was pronounced dead at the hospital due to sharp force injuries.

The Suffolk County Coroner’s Office later classified his death as a homicide caused by multiple stab wounds.

Officials criticized CVS for not sharing surveillance footage of the incident promptly. While company representatives expressed shock over the tragedy and described Eddie as a dedicated employee, they did provide some video evidence to authorities after the incident.

Eddie’s family described him as a remarkable young man from a close-knit family in West Babylon. He had a passion for music and was also involved in community activities.

The school’s statement about Eddie reflected their sorrow: “Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with the entire Cine family.”

Piraccio, initially arrested and charged with second-degree murder, now faces first-degree murder charges, which, if convicted, could lead to life imprisonment without parole. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 23rd, and he remains in custody without bail.
