Cynthia Erivo Comments on Ariana Grande’s Incident at Wicked Premiere

Cynthia Erivo has shared her thoughts regarding the wild fan behavior that occurred during the premiere of *Wicked: For Good* in Singapore last week, where a fan managed to grab Ariana Grande.

The Tony Award-winning actress mentioned that she and her fellow cast members faced “some challenges” while participating in a recent Screen Actors Guild screening over the weekend, as noted by Entertainment Weekly.

Though Erivo didn’t go into detail about the events, it was likely a reference to the alarming moment when Johnson Wen leaped over a barrier and rushed toward Grande.

“I mean, even last week,” Erivo remarked. “To be honest, we’ve had to really address some things.”

Erivo continued, “This film has really allowed us to grow—not just as artists, but as friends and individuals.” According to reports, Grande appeared emotional and on the verge of tears as Erivo spoke.

“Let’s be honest, for real,” Erivo added. “We had to take some things seriously.”

She expressed, “I miss being in groups of people like this all the time,” reflecting her gratitude for the close-knit atmosphere, emphasizing that such camaraderie is rare on set.

“We were lucky to be part of something special,” she stated, praising her co-stars for their bravery in exploring their own identities and the characters they portray.

While Erivo didn’t elaborate further on the startling incident, it was reported that Wen has been arrested for public nuisance and received a nine-day prison sentence.

Erivo recounted feeling overwhelmed, commenting that she had to confront some issues she had previously ignored. Meanwhile, Grande has not yet publicly addressed the event, choosing instead to share a general message of gratitude for Singapore on Instagram without mentioning the incident.

Wen had faced legal trouble in the past and, despite claiming he was “free” on social media, ended up behind bars for his actions.

In a swift response during last Thursday’s incident, Erivo was the first to reach Grande and pulled her away from Wen before security could intervene.

The two actors, who portray Glinda and Elphaba respectively, have grown close, with Erivo referring to Grande as a “sister.” Reflecting on their relationship, she noted that they’ve had important, though sometimes difficult, conversations that solidified their bond.
