D.C. appeals court temporarily suspends ex-Trump lawyer’s law license

The D.C. Court of Appeals temporarily suspended former President Trump’s former lawyer’s license to practice law after the California Bar issued a similar order in late March.

Former Trump attorney John Eastman’s license in Washington, D.C., has been suspended pending final disposition in California state court, Chief Judge Anna Blackburn Rigsby of the D.C. Court of Appeals announced. order Filed on Friday.

In late March, a California judge ruled against Eastman for his “false and misleading statements” about his claims of 2020 election fraud and his role in “inciting” the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. It recommended that Mr. Mann be disqualified. State’s Attorney Judge Yvette Rowland also recommended that he pay a $10,000 monetary penalty.

Rowland this week denied Eastman’s request to lift his license suspension, saying on Wednesday that Eastman had failed to prove he was not a “threat to the public.”

The California Supreme Court is expected to rule on the case, which Eastman, the former dean of Chapman Law School, can appeal.

California Judge Rowland convicted him on 10 charges brought in California last year.

Eastman faces charges in two battleground states for upcoming 2024 elections.

Eastman faces eight criminal charges in Georgia, accusing him and other allies of the former president of overturning Georgia’s 2020 election results. He has pleaded not guilty in the case. In Arizona, he and other Trump allies are facing charges related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in the Grand Canyon State.
