Nearly 90% of Washington officials and lobbyists said they do not want Vance as the Republican vice presidential nominee, instead backing former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley, Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina), Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) or Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, a former private equity executive.

The investigation is a testament to Vance’s populist credentials.

Speaking in his hometown of Middletown, Ohio, this week, for example, Vance blasted the federal government’s free trade policies that Washington lobbyists widely argue allow China to have a monopoly on pharmaceutical manufacturing.

“Think about it. Do you know where 95% of ibuprofen and Advil are made? China.” [Do] “Do you know where most of the antibiotics we put in our children’s bodies come from? China,” Vance said.

Washington officials and lobbyists have joined the growing list of establishment opponents of Vance’s populism. As Breitbart News reported, big donors, wealthy Wall Street brokers and neo-conservative conservatives are wary of Vance’s potential vice presidency.

“He represents something about the country that coastal elites and big business have been unable to recognize for a long time,” said a lobbyist for a major bank. Financial Times.
