D.C. GOPers Who Don’t Do Anything Like Trump, Not a Reformer Like Me

On Monday's “NewsNation Live” broadcast, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a 2024 Republican presidential candidate, spoke out against Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who is endorsing his 2024 presidential rival, former President Donald Trump. State), the D.C. Republican Party said, “It's important, but they're talking about them.” Never make it about borders, spending, etc. And Trump has become the embodiment of the Republican base in Washington, D.C., and they support those people. A lot of those politicians are not going to be happy with some of the things we're doing, like term limits and banning members from owning stock.”

“Governor DeSantis, there are a growing number of Republican senators who are now supporting Donald Trump,” host Marni Hughes said. The most recent one is Marco Rubio in your state. That should sting a little.”

Mr. DeSantis responded: “Well, that's interesting, so I'm the governor, so I have like 90 members of the state Legislature supporting me between the House and the Senate, because they're working with me and getting great results. Many of them come to Iowa from Florida at their own expense in mid-January and are knocking on doors in three feet of snow and ice. So I think that shows your commitment. ”

He added, “I'm not the favorite candidate of the politicians in Washington, that's true. But let's be honest: Our voters don't want to see someone supported by the politicians in Washington.'' I think they look at Washington, D.C., and the Republicans say big things, but they never deliver. It's like Lucy in football. They always say they're going to do border work. They promise, they always promise to cut spending, they always promise to do things like this, but nothing really seems to have changed. All these politicians are really attracted to Donald Trump. He's kind of the embodiment of the Republican class in Washington, D.C., and I think they support that. I think a lot of politicians won't be happy with some of the things we're doing. For example, I believe in term limits for members of Congress. I don't think members of Congress should be able to trade individual stocks. Look at some of these people, they're making a lot of money in the market. They might be running their own hedge funds. Why do they make more money than the average American? Are we doing much better? So the reform agenda that we have is not acceptable to many people in Washington, D.C., and that's the way it should be.”
