D.C. Officials Announce Security Measures For Trump Inauguration

Officials in Washington, D.C., held a security briefing ahead of President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration and planned protocols to ensure the incoming leader's safety.

Officials on Monday discussed security plans, road closures and local impacts ahead of President Trump's Jan. 20 inauguration.th.

“The District is proud to support the peaceful transition of power every four years,” Mayor Muriel Bowser said in a news release. “We are proud of this responsibility and are grateful to our federal partners, local agencies, and community members for working together to ensure a safe and secure event.”

He also said that they have already started implementing certain safety measures. Local residents and visitors will notice an increased police presence, fences, and barriers.

“Securing the 2025 Presidential Inauguration is truly a team effort, and we are working closely with our law enforcement and public safety partners to develop a comprehensive security plan,” said Secret Service Special Agent in Charge of the Washington Field. Investigator Matt McCool said. office. “Our ultimate goal is to ensure the safety and security of our protected persons, government officials, event participants, and the general public during Inauguration Day.”

Bowser explained that the majority of roadways will be closed or restricted in the Potomac River Valley to the west, K Street NW to the north, 2nd Street NE/SE to the east, and I-395/I-695 to the south. Local traffic only.

“There is no more unified law enforcement agency than the police force charged with providing security for the presidential inauguration,” said Police Chief Pamela Smith. “Our entire department will be in action leading up to the presidential inauguration. Additionally, I will be honored by the thousands of police officers from across the country who have generously raised their hands and given their time to support the Metropolitan Police Department. We will be strengthened.”

Law enforcement officials also noted that extensive security for the event required advance planning.

“Leading up to and during the presidential inauguration, FBI special agents, intelligence analysts, and other personnel will evaluate information related to the event and collaborate with law enforcement partners to ensure the safety of all attendees and participants.” We are committed to sharing,” the FBI said.
