The second day of hearings to unravel allegations that Georgia prosecutor Fani Willis had an “improper” relationship with a colleague prosecuting former President Trump’s case is underway.
Willis was scheduled to take the stand again on Friday, but after the court convened, state prosecutors said they did not ask Willis any questions during cross-examination, and she was not called back to the stand.
On Thursday, Fulton County Senior Judge Scott McAfee announced a marathon testimony in which defense attorneys in the case grilled witnesses to prove that Willis and special prosecutor Nathan Wade were in a romantic relationship at the time. He presided over the event, which caused controversy in some quarters. Willis hired him and she benefited financially from the relationship, she said.
The courtroom reached a boiling point Thursday afternoon when Willis himself took the witness stand after several attempts at evasion, but was so belligerent that the judge intervened multiple times to defuse the tension. I had to.

On Thursday, Willis’ former friend and colleague in the district attorney’s office, Robin Yearty, testified that there was “no question” that Willis and Wade had been in a “romantic” relationship since 2019. He made bombshell statements that contradicted his previous statements. The court claimed their relationship began in 2022 and Wade was hired in 2021.
Wade, who took the stand for several hours on Thursday, revealed that she had been battling cancer for part of 2020 and 2021, and told the court that she had not dated anyone in 2021.
Defense attorneys Ashley Merchant, Craig Gillen and Steve Stadow, who led much of Thursday’s cross-examination, sought to prove the existence and extent of the financial benefits Willis derived from his relationship with Wade. This is the core of the argument that this should be done. You will be disqualified.

Much of Willis’ testimony focused on vacations she spent with Wade, including a Caribbean cruise and a visit to the California wine region.
Both men testified that Wade routinely paid for the trips and Willis reimbursed them in cash. When asked repeatedly whether records existed regarding the withdrawal of her funds, she said that she was habituated to keep six months’ worth of regular expenses in cash and had been taught by her father. said that it was

“The state has acknowledged that a relationship existed; therefore, the existence and extent of the economic interest has not yet been proven,” McAfee said.
Defense attorneys say they need to call two more witnesses on Friday. McAfee indicated he would not issue a ruling from the bench after at least five hours of testimony, which is expected to last.
