Dad breaks down as 22-year-old daughter donates organs after domestic violence death

A heartbreaking video shows the father of a domestic violence victim who died during a fight with his girlfriend crying over his daughter’s body as it is taken away for organ donation to save others.

Robert Moreno was seen crying and crouching over his 22-year-old daughter, Zarya Moreno, as she was taken off life support at Banner-University Healthcare Hospital in Tucson, Arizona, on Wednesday. This is reported by local news site KOLD.

Her grieving father and his family waved goodbye one last time as Zarya was taken away, just three years after her twin brother was killed in a motorcycle accident.

Robert Moreno broke down in tears in front of his daughter Zaria’s body.

“With the loss of our twins, we have a lot of darkness in our future, but we will overcome it no matter how difficult it is because that’s what our daughter would have wanted,” Moreno told KOLD.

“It gives me great joy to know that a part of my baby will live on,” he said of organ donation.

“But there are no words or tools that can make this situation better,” he added.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office said Zarya was seriously injured Monday following an altercation with her boyfriend, Angelito Adrian Olivas, 25.

According to the preliminary complaint, after the fight, Zarya allegedly jumped into the trunk of Olivas’ car as Olivas tried to flee in his vehicle.

He continued driving, and at some point Zarya fell off, police said.

Olivas was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence, aggravated assault and felony endangerment and released later the same day on $2,500 bail.

“It felt like a joke,” Roberts said of the low bail amount. “I was disappointed in the judge and the justice system.”

Roberts described his daughter as a strong, determined young woman who enjoyed her time in the Reserve Officer Training Course (ROTC) program.

Despite his heartbreak, Robert said he took some comfort from seeing the outpouring of love from the community, with more than 100 people coming to the hospital to support the family during a procession in his daughter’s honour.

“I thought I would only have my family and friends supporting me. I never in a million years imagined I would get so much support,” he told local media.
