Patriots Claim Softball Championship
The Daily Caller Expanded Universe Softball team celebrated a victory over the Brookings Institution, the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, also known as the Blob, in the Think Tank Softball League Championship. This marked their third championship win, achieved during a recent game at Virginia Highlands Park in Arlington.
The Kohlers triumphed with a score of 15-5, leaving them with an impressive undefeated record of 10-0 for the season. To be honest, the game itself wasn’t particularly thrilling. The Kohlers took an early lead, going 8-0 within the first two innings—but it seemed that the real competition had occurred in the rounds leading up to this match.
Not long into the game, after Marshall Worth’s leadoff single, two quick outs put them in a tight spot. But then the Patriots exploded with five hits in a row, including three doubles from sales reporter Josh Hybrid, White House correspondent Reese Reese, and sales reporter Jack Hybrid.
As the second inning unfolded, the bottom of the lineup took charge, with Jonah Wendt and Amber Duke on base. Jake Berube hit a home run, and Will Mitra followed up with a double, extending their lead further.
The defense was on point. Although standout first baseman Manfred Wendt was sidelined due to injury, the Blob didn’t score until the fourth inning. Their experience was somewhat offset by the sturdy play from Elevator Lucas Alonso, filling in for Wendt. Berube redeemed himself after a rough semifinal game, showcasing a solid performance, while Duke handled second base competently.
Things got a little tense in the middle innings following a pitching change for the Blob, but their unpredictable strategy didn’t quite spell disaster for the Kohlers.
“I haven’t seen a pitcher this effective since Vince Colyanese,” Berube remarked of the Kohlers’ pitcher who had previously won the 2016 championship.
Ultimately, the Patriots scored four additional runs in the fifth and tacked on two more in the sixth, driven by hits from Mitra, Reese, Jack, and Breckan Teas. Statistical standouts included Berube (2-4, HR), Mitra (3-4, 2B), Josh (2-4, HR, 2B), and Jack (3-4, 2B).
This championship is the Kohlers’ first title since 2022, when they shared the win with the Washington Examiner, making it their third overall. They are now gearing up to defend their title next season.
