Daily Caller’s Softball Team Triumphs
The Daily Caller’s expanded softball team, fittingly named the Universe, had an overwhelming victory, overshadowing the Land Corporation at Virginia Highland Park on Wednesday. The United Nations has labeled the event a war crime.
On this day, think tank enthusiasts and journalists came together for the playoffs in the Thinktank Softball League. The Daily Callers ended the regular season undefeated at 6-0, securing the top spot in the Bull Moose category. Meanwhile, Rand concluded with a 3-3 record, landing fourth in the free soil category. The callers continued their impressive playoff run, winning the game 22-5 in just five innings.
The initial scoring spree, described in business vernacular as a “first strike,” set the tone for the game. After containing the opposing team in the first half, the callers scored 13 runs right away, giving them a comfortable lead almost immediately. They recorded nine hits from 11 at-bats during this rally, including a notable triple from Hybrid Salesperson Josh.
The offensive momentum didn’t stop there; they managed at least two runs in each subsequent inning. A visit from sports associate Manfred Went led to a one-hit cycle (notably more realistic than a home run, according to Josh), while intern Kenny capped off his time with the team by going four for four, hitting two doubles along the way.
The defense also shone brightly, allowing only one run in four of the five innings. Kenny and travel ad salesman Jake Berbe solidified the left side of the infield, showcasing an elite performance. Intern Tayte held down second base effectively, while sports associate Will Mitra made a case for the TTSL Gold Glove with his stellar play in left field, supported by Jack, a hybrid salesperson in center right.
“He enjoys seeing batters face him, even if it’s his own team,” Jonah Went remarked about Mitra during the game.
This game sets the stage for the upcoming quarter-final against the Commerce division. Following a quick break, the team aims to keep their magical season alive and capture their first TTSL title since 2022.
Interestingly, this matchup was a rematch from the 2022 Championship Game, marking the first clash between the two teams since then, where the callers previously edged out a win in a nail-biting 15-12 game in Washington, DC. The Scrappy Molddogs had just taken on the Swampy Government Agency, boasting a hefty 48,000 employees.
Post-match, some observers expressed their discontent over the reports they read. It seems, however, that this journalist has a knack for unscripted banter. It’s a lighthearted approach aimed at bringing a smile, after all. The idea is to embrace the jovial spirit of this think tank softball league—after all, the more fun, the better, right? And I guess if you don’t like the banter, winning could be a better option.
(P.S. The Daily Callers acknowledge that RAND Corporation delves into various research fields beyond defense—an interesting note in this game, especially for Charlie.)
