The woman who was allegedly slapped is a successful New York lawyer and has been identified only by her pseudonym, “Jane,” the Daily Mail reported.
The incident allegedly happened in 2012 as Emhoff and Jane were waiting in line at the Cannes Film Festival in Nice, France.

The allegations were made to the Daily Mail by three people who claimed to be Jane's friends, who shared their memories of the incident and also published itineraries and correspondence between Jane and Emhoff that corroborated the story. All three requested anonymity for fear of retaliation from Mr. Emhoff.

A friend said Jane told her about the incident at the time.
