‘Daily Show’ Mocks TikTok Users Saying Ban Is the Worst Thing U.S. Has Ever Done: ‘We Did Slavery’

comedy central of daily show Host Jordan Klepper mocked TikTok users expressing anger over the US ban on Chinese apps this Saturday. One TikTok user called the decision the worst thing the United States has ever done.

“Is that the worst thing? I mean, America had slavery. Can we at least call it a draw?” daily show The host said this Wednesday in response to a grieving TikTok user.

Klepper also poked fun at the US government, which claims TikTok is a national security threat and that Americans are being spied on and having their data stolen by the Chinese.

“This is not the core demographic of TikTok, so I wouldn’t be surprised,” Klepper quipped. “So they're more of a Walgreens app type of crowd. They're old and infirm.”

He also teased the government over the fact that Americans have started downloading other Chinese-owned apps, such as RedNote and Lemon8, in response to the TikTok ban.

“Well done, American government! You told America they couldn't see China anymore, and now they're going to Las Vegas with China,” Klepper laughed. “This is going to be very frustrating for Kamala. She just spent the entire campaign fighting accusations that she's a socialist. And now all Americans are saying, 'I want to be the successor to TikTok. I literally vow to become a Chinese socialist.”

Klepper went on to discuss the idea that TikTok's parent company ByteDance could eventually sell its stake to a U.S. buyer before the ban goes into effect and keep the app active for U.S. users. I joked about it.

Elon Musk, Mr. Beast, former Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, shark tank Star Kevin O'Leary and others were at one point rumored to be potential buyers for TikTok.

“Yes, there's still a chance that TikTok could be sold to one of America's many wealthy weirdos. Apparently, since Lex Luthor couldn't be on board, this was the best America could offer,” Klepper said. he said. “In other words, there are no strong buyer candidates, right?”

On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled in favor of the U.S. ban on sales, which is scheduled to go into effect this Sunday.
