Not everything is rosy here in Pleasantville.
A woman who lives in a small Iowa town that shares a name with the 1998 film “Pleasantville” is accused of poisoning her husband with eye drops at least twice last year, police said.
Daisy Zanger, 39, was arrested last Tuesday, more than a year after allegedly spitting “harmful” over-the-counter drugs into her husband’s drinks, including tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride, according to court documents.

“Daisy Zanger admitted during the interview that she administered two separate doses of a harmful substance known as tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride to her husband,” the complaint states about the July 2023 incident.According to Law and Crime.
Her husband survived the poisoning but was hospitalized after suffering breathing problems after drinking the contaminated beverage. KCCI reported.
Taking tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride can cause drowsiness, low blood pressure, and a dangerously slow heart rate. According to the Poison Control Center.
“When ingested, it crosses the blood barrier very rapidly and has toxic effects on the blood, brain and central nervous system, quickly affecting the entire body,” Dr. Brooke Johnson told KCCI.
More serious symptoms can include coma and seizures. According to Mount Sinai.
Zanger was charged with two counts of administration of a harmful substance and domestic violence (assault or mental illness), the station reported. She is being held in the Marion County Jail on a $12,000 cash/surety bond.
