Dak Prescott believes he should be on Cowboys hot seat if Mike McCarthy is

Dak Prescott showed some solidarity with his embattled head coach Sunday night, when the Cowboys fell far short of their goal with a 48-32 loss to the Packers in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy is facing many questions about his job security after Dallas was eliminated from the playoffs early despite going 12-5 on the season.

But Mr. Prescott later intervened, telling reporters that if Mr. McCarthy was in the hot seat, so should he.

“He was great,” Prescott said. “I don't understand how that could happen. [questions about his job], but business understands. If that's the case, then honestly, it should be about me too. I was able to get through this season thanks to that person. This team was able to succeed because of him. I understand that winning the Super Bowl is important, but that's the standard in the league and definitely should be the standard here. I understand that, but if that's the case, please add me to the list. ”

Prescott threw for 403 yards with 41 completions and three touchdowns, but also threw two interceptions in the loss.

The Cowboys have failed to advance beyond the divisional round for three consecutive seasons, despite winning 12 games each season.

The Cowboys QB threw for a league-leading 36 touchdowns and was worthy of being the 2023 MVP. As a result, there are reports that Prescott and the team will negotiate a contract extension, potentially making him the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.

But the lack of postseason success raises questions about whether team owner Jerry Jones wants to spend that kind of money on Prescott after 2024.

“Actually, I haven't thought about this at all. So I'm not going to comment because I haven't thought about it,” Jones told reporters. According to Pro Football Talk. “For the last few weeks, ever since I found out this game would be my home ground, I was fully expecting and planning to go from this game to another game at this stadium. So I changed my thought process. I'm going to completely get back to basics and think about something other than this game here next week.”

Jones will have plenty of time to consider the organization's next steps after Sunday's loss.
