Dak Prescott believes “the money is there” when it comes to a new contract. Dallas Cowboys.
Prescott met with the media at Cowboys training camp on Friday. Discussed He spoke about the status of his contract negotiations with Dallas and also addressed recent comments in which he said he has “obligations” both to his teammates and other quarterbacks in the NFL when it comes to his contract. ESPN‘s When asked by Todd Archer about that obligation, Prescott responded at length, noting that “the money is there” to get the deal done.
“I’m a guy who grew up with two older brothers.” Mr. Prescott“I know what brotherhood means, not just to this team but to the NFL and the fraternity of players. There’s money out there, money can be made. It’s possible. There are ways to make it all work for both sides. In that sense, it’s always about pushing the envelope for the next person.”
“That’s why I said that. I’ve never really cared about numbers, not the first time, not with the franchise tag, not with the negotiations, not even now. That’s why I said I have an agent I trust and a front office that can find a solution that makes sense for both sides.”
Prescott has had several quarterbacks sign deals since training camp began, including Trevor Lawrence and Jordan Love, who became the highest-paid quarterback (by average salary) behind Joe Burrow at $55 million per year.
Prescott is in the final year of his current contract, which carries an average annual salary of $40 million. The Cowboys cannot place the franchise tag on Prescott next season, so unless he signs an extension, the quarterback will become a free agent and $40 million will count against Dallas’ salary cap in 2025. A four-year gap Prescott’s current contract counts against the Cowboys’ cap.
But he believes he needs funding to make the deal happen, and now they’ll just have to wait and see if Jerry Jones agrees.
