NFL Players React to Trade News

The Dallas Cowboys made headlines recently by trading Mika Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. It’s a move that’s still surprising to some, even three days after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed the trade for a stunning four-year, $188 million deal.

Following a hopeful extension last offseason, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott addressed the situation. He admitted he didn’t expect Parsons to be traded, but he noted it wasn’t a shock either—trade negotiations had clearly become personal. “I think it was more about their internal issues,” Prescott said.

He expressed relief at the resolution of the tensions between Parsons and Jones, stating, “If nothing was done, we’d all be wondering when he would play. It could have been far more distracting than just getting a solution.” Prescott had previously thought Parsons would secure the same kind of contract he and star receiver CeeDee Lamb received last offseason, possibly before the Cowboys faced the Philadelphia Eagles.

The trade was made official last Thursday, involving the Cowboys obtaining the Packers’ next two first-round picks alongside several defensive players. Jones downplayed concerns about Parsons’ demands during negotiations, emphasizing that the focus was on the team’s success both now and in the future.

As the news sank in for Cowboys fans, Prescott reached out to Parsons, simply wishing him luck. Other teammates, like Trevon Diggs, also sent their well wishes. Prescott reflected on the situation by saying it was essential to handle it smoothly, rather than let it drag on, which could have created more headaches.

While the Cowboys will see Parsons on the field this season, Prescott has a different challenge to tackle: Parsons could very well test his pocket during their upcoming game against the Packers. It’ll be interesting to see how this trade plays out in the long run.
