Dakota Johnson from 'Fifty Shades' Calls Hollywood 'Chaotic,' Criticizes Studios for Repeating 'the Same Stories'

Actress Dakota Johnson recently expressed her bewilderment about Hollywood, criticizing studios for constantly churning out remakes while audiences really seek fresh content. “I’m a little confused right now,” she remarked, referring to her experiences in the industry.

In a conversation with YouTube host Sean Evans on his show, Johnson was asked about her views on the challenges facing Hollywood today. Evans pointed out that this topic often comes up in industry discussions. Johnson shared her thoughts, saying, “It’s tough for a committee to make creative choices, especially when those making decisions might not fully understand the films or who the audience is.”

“When a project is successful, studios often just want to replicate that success, which can lead to more of the same. But people are craving new experiences, something different,” she added.

The actress concluded, “Honestly, it’s all a bit confusing right now, isn’t it?”

During her appearance on Evans’ show, Johnson provided insight into her views on Hollywood while engaging in a rather spicy chicken wing challenge, trying to stay composed amid the heat of the interview.

This isn’t the first time Johnson has criticized the decision-making processes in Hollywood. Earlier this month, she addressed the failures related to her Marvel film and its disappointing box office performance, stating, “It wasn’t my fault.”

She pointed out that too many creative decisions are made by groups who lack a genuine connection to the art, making it extremely difficult to produce compelling work. “It’s challenging to create something meaningful in that environment,” she remarked.

“Unfortunately,” she added, referring to her experience with the film Madame Web, “the vision changed from what it was initially supposed to be. I just felt like a passenger through the process. It’s one of those things; big-budget films often flop.”

Last year, Johnson highlighted the struggles of filmmaking, noting that both large and small productions face similar issues stemming from committee-driven decisions. “When art is made by a committee, it seldom succeeds,” she insisted. “You can’t base creativity on numbers or algorithms.”

“The audience is incredibly perceptive, and it’s a mistake for executives to think otherwise,” she stated. “People have a radar for insincerity. Even if films start being created with AI, that won’t resonate with viewers.”
