Before they tied the knot, Jessica Simpson humorously mentioned dreaming about marrying NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Amy Earnhardt recounted how the pop singer “tried to bait my guy” during a conversation about their early relationship. “Back in 2008, or maybe it was 2009, we had just started dating. I was still living in Jacksonville, but visiting Daytona to see Dale. I heard Jessica Simpson was at the track, and since we’re both from Texas and the same age, I’ve always been a fan,” Amy shared on the “Bless Your ‘Hardt’ Podcast.”
She expressed her excitement at the thought of meeting Simpson. “So, I asked Dale if he could get Jessica to come over to the bus. He responded, ‘I don’t think that’s a very good idea.’ I thought, why not?”
Amy then mentioned that Dale showed her a clip of the singer talking about her dream to marry him in a treehouse.
That’s when Amy jokingly drew the line. “So I was like, ‘Yeah… let’s not bring that here, okay?’” she laughed, recalling the moment.
She noted that the encounter made a lasting impression on her. “I haven’t bought any Jessica Simpson shoes or bags since. Like, how does she keep all that stuff? I felt like she was really trying to bait my man… Yes, I think she knew exactly what she was doing,” Amy said.
This somewhat awkward incident took place in the late 2000s when Amy and Dale Jr. were just beginning their relationship, and Simpson was rapidly gaining fame.
Simpson later met former NFL player Eric Johnson in May 2010, and they got engaged six months afterward, eventually marrying in 2014. They have three children: Maxwell, Ace, and Birdie, who was born in 2019.
In November 2024, as Simpson was shifting her focus back to music, Johnson was seen without his wedding ring. “She’s working in music and splits her time between Los Angeles and Nashville. Eric’s always in Los Angeles while the kids go to school there,” a source revealed.
“Jess and Eric have totally different lives now.”
In contrast, Dale Jr. and Amy were married in 2016 and share two daughters, Isla, 7, and Nicole, 5.
