Following a disappointing 7-10 season in 2024, the Dallas Cowboys decided to shake things up significantly.
The team parted ways with head coach Mike McCarthy, traded away notable linebacker Micah Parsons, and started to explore a new direction.
Quarterback Dak Prescott is slated to work under the new playcaller, Brian Schottenheimer, leading to a record of 7 wins, 9 losses, and 1 tie.
While there are numerous changes, the outcomes seem rather similar.
Schottenheimer faces a critical second year, confronting a challenging schedule for 2026.
This year’s opponents include heavyweights like Jaden Daniels’ Washington Commanders in the season opener (September 20), Brock Purdy’s San Francisco 49ers (November 15), and Jalen Hurts’ Philadelphia Eagles (November 26).
Interestingly, despite these tough matchups, Yahoo! Sports has reported that the Cowboys have the 12th easiest schedule in the NFL, attributed to their underwhelming performance in 2025. Their opponents collectively had a winning percentage of .493.
That’s a bit of a silver lining.
Add to this the arrival of new defensive coordinator Christian Parker, acquired in a deal involving elite edge rusher Rashan Gary, along with drafted safety Caleb Downs. Furthermore, they strengthened their defense by signing safety Jaylen Thompson and cornerback Koby Durant.
“We’re currently focused on doing things the right way,” Parker, who is 34, mentioned during a recent press conference.
On offense, Prescott will have support from a dynamic roster that includes George Pickens, CeeDee Lamb, Javonte Williams, Jake Ferguson, and offensive lineman Tyler Smith.
