Dallas Jenkins Discusses the Impact of Scripture on Lives While Filming 'The Chosen'

The creator and director of the popular series The Chosen, Dallas Jenkins, discussed the impactful presence of God’s Word on set, even with cast members who may not identify as Christians.

During an event at North Church in Oklahoma, Jenkins shared insights into the series’ history and gave a sneak peek at future episodes while being interviewed by Pastor Rodney Fouts.

He pointed out that more than half of the cast and crew do not claim to be Christians, explaining that they prioritize finding the best talent. Jenkins and his wife, Amanda, realized early on that their primary ministry target was not the vast audience, but the people they encountered daily during production.

Jenkins mentioned that some actors, including Elijah Alexander—who portrays the Roman agent and rebel Atticus—have embraced Christianity since their initial meeting. Interestingly, although Alexander’s character opposes Jesus in the series, he has become a follower of Him in reality.

“As we worked on this show, he developed a deeper understanding of Jesus,” Jenkins reflected. “Last year, he reached out to me, saying, ‘Dallas, I’ve finally come to truly believe, and I want to thank you for introducing me to Him.’”

This kind of feedback resonates deeply with Jenkins. “What could be a greater statement than ‘thank you for introducing me to Jesus’? Honestly, I’d like that to be my legacy.”

Alexander publicly affirmed his newfound faith through baptism during filming. Jenkins recalled a moment when they used a lake to represent the Sea of Galilee: “On one shooting day, Elijah was baptized in that very setting here in Texas,” he said, drawing applause.

Jenkins also shared other instances of the profound effects of Scripture on the cast and crew, recounting how some would become emotional while reciting Bible verses. “There are times when an actor quotes a verse and something just… happens. It can be really moving, and sometimes I need to do multiple takes because they can’t compose themselves,” he chuckled. “Then they say to me, ‘I don’t know why, but I couldn’t get past that line.’ I think I know what’s happening. You’re speaking God’s Word, and it somehow transforms that moment.”

Season 5 of The Chosen is streaming now on Prime Video and the app, with the first episode of Season 6 anticipated to release in late 2026.
