Cast members of *The Chosen One* have opened up about their experiences filming Season 6, especially revealing emotional moments from a behind-the-scenes video, which showed creator and director Dallas Jenkins in tears, comforted by his wife.
Speaking to Crosswalk Headlines, Jenkins described the filming experience as grueling—both physically, under the hot Italian sun, and emotionally, as the team repeatedly revisited intense scenes centered on the crucifixion.
A clip shared on the series’ official YouTube channel captured the crew’s overwhelming emotions, with Jenkins stepping aside at one point to receive comfort from his wife, Amanda. “I felt empty,” he reflected, calling it an “emotional breakdown.”
This weekend marks the debut of *Chosen Adventure*, an animated series he executive produced, featuring two children encountering Jesus in first-century Capernaum. Additionally, *The Best Christmas Pageant Ever* will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on November 11, a project Jenkins directed that some critics are hailing as a holiday classic.
Also recently released is *Home of the Chosen*, a Bible study co-authored with Amanda Jenkins, derived from Season 5 and reflecting on the solace found in faith.
Season 6 is expected to premiere in late 2026, culminating with a standalone film in theaters on March 12, 2027, focusing on Christ’s death and final hours.
The emotional behind-the-scenes video features other cast members like Elizabeth Tabish (Mary Magdalene) and Lara Silva (Eden), rather than Jonathan Roumie, who portrays Jesus. The video has garnered 1.4 million views, with viewers commenting on the emotional toll of filming such heavy scenes.
Recalling a particularly impactful day, Jenkins shared, “We were filming Jesus being taken up on the cross. Jonathan was like Jesus, visibly exhausted and emotional. I felt isolated despite being surrounded by 200 people.”
He noted that the challenging filming process forged strong bonds among the cast, dubbing it a “trauma bond.” “We knew we were just filming a show, yet seeing Jonathan in character left a significant emotional impact,” he said.
Dallas acknowledged the difficult nature of the production, contemplating that perhaps it was meant to create a small taste of the immense sacrifice depicted in Season 6.
Amanda Jenkins, appearing towards the end of the clip, remarked that God led everyone to a place of raw vulnerability during filming. “Dallas had to support the cast emotionally while also managing their spiritual journeys in real life,” she explained.
She noted this season felt different compared to previous ones, as the emotional intensity left actors in tears—requiring comfort and reassurance once filming wrapped up.
“When you say ‘cut,’ the actors need support. Dallas is there for them, ensuring they have the space to release their emotions before getting back to work,” she added.
