According to a report by fox 4Police reporting officer Gina Fowler Strickland was fired Thursday after a disciplinary hearing with the police chief.
Police officials later announced that Strickland had been fired for “engaging in unlawful conduct when arrested on charges of fraud, substandard, or fictitious degrees.”
Strickland was indicted in June 2023 on charges of fraud and falsifying a degree for allegedly lying about his higher education degree to get a promotion a year earlier, according to court records.
A warrant for her arrest was issued in September after she failed to appear at a court hearing. However, the warrant was later canceled for unknown reasons.
Court records say the district attorney's office ultimately dismissed the charges in November after Strickland completed a pretrial intervention program.
In Texas, lying about a higher education degree to get a job or promotion is a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.
