That’s definitely a major mistake.
A content creator recently took to TikTok to share her unfortunate experience with her Apple laptop screen, which shattered after she placed a piece of paper between the screen and keyboard before closing it.
“I just opened my laptop and it felt like the biggest jump scare ever. I’m really confused,” said Heidi (@classicheidi) in her video.
“I took it outside to my bed, and when I put it down, it cracked… I was just looking at it.”
The only thing that seemed “off” about what Heidi did might be the reason for the mysterious crack.
“I think the pressure from the paper caused the screen to crack internally. I really didn’t think it would happen…” she added.
“Am I an idiot? Is this common knowledge?” she questioned.
“I’ve used my computer like a folder countless times. There’s no way this could happen,” one user remarked.
Another commenter shared their experience, saying, “I actually fell asleep on my laptop in my freshman year and it slid to the ground when I woke up. It was fine.”
Some people, however, pointed out that it’s generally not a good idea to put anything between the keyboard and screen, especially for laptops like Apple’s.
This post reached out for comments from Apple, but we’re still waiting to hear back.
Others chimed in, saying, “You shouldn’t put anything between your keyboard and the screen. Maybe it’s also a factory defect, and the paper just exacerbated the issue.”
“Most laptops actually have a little gap when closed,” another commenter mentioned.
“Yes, that’s typical for MacBooks. If it’s measured just right and closed completely, it should be fine without anything in between,” someone said. “Even a camera cover can break the display.”
These commenters might be onto something.
Computer Repair Services advised, “…make sure the keyboard is free of any objects like pens or headphones before closing the lid, as they can create pressure points on the screen.”
