There’s no doubt that Angel Reese is having a strong season in her first WNBA season, but one aspect of her game is raising some eyebrows, especially amid her recent shooting slump.
Reese has been a double-double machine this year, but the numbers are According to Sporting Newspoints out the issue of the LSU product’s ability to make layups.
Reese is shooting 43.8 percent from within five feet of the basket this season, well below the league average of 59.6 percent, and that’s made even more evident by his struggles with his jump shot.
The seventh overall pick in this year’s draft is shooting just 18 percent from three-point range and 31 percent from mid-range.
Reese finished with 11 points and 22 rebounds, recording her 22nd double-double of the season and becoming the first WNBA player to record 20 or more rebounds in three consecutive games.
But at the same time, Reese made just 4 of 16 field goals and the Sky lost to the Aces, 77-75.
The struggle has drawn considerable criticism, with even Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy calling out Reese on social media.
But Sky teammate Chennedy Carter defended Rees in comments after the latest defeat on Sunday.
“Angel is out there battling, playing hard, trying to get the foul calls, that’s the kind of play we need,” Carter told reporters. “Whether she finishes near the goal line or not, she played a great game. We’re doing what we need to do to be successful. No matter the outcome, we’re a team, we’re young, we’re growing, and this is a situation we can learn from.”

Sky have struggled since returning from the Olympic break, losing four of their last five games.
At the moment, they are in 8th place in the standings.
