Bongino Critiques Democrats’ Support for Platner Amid Allegations
Former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino has criticized Democratic leaders for seemingly valuing power over principles. He suggested that many are backing embattled Senator Graham Platner now that they believe he can no longer win.
“There was no principle involved here at all,” Bongino said during an appearance on “The Ingraham Angle” on Tuesday.
He added, “The left is anti-anti-communist. Their focus is solely on opposing us and what we represent as they promote their communist agenda. Platner had become a tool for them—one that was losing its effectiveness.”
Calls for Platner to Withdraw Following Sexual Misconduct Allegations
Several prominent Democrats, including New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani, Representative Ro Khanna, Senator Bernie Sanders, and Senator Elizabeth Warren, have urged Platner to either retract his support or suspend his campaign after he was accused of rape.
After dealing with the initial allegation, Platner quickly faced a second charge of sexual misconduct. It was reported that he allegedly removed a condom during intercourse with his ex-girlfriend, Lindsay Fifield, after she had explicitly requested its use.
These serious allegations have further compounded the issues surrounding Platner’s already troubled campaign aimed at unseating incumbent Senator Susan Collins.
Platner’s Team Denies Allegations
Platner’s campaign has refuted both accusations, claiming, particularly regarding the second charge, that it is “categorically false and politically motivated.” However, the campaign has not yet responded to requests for further comment.
Bongino, along with other Republicans, has highlighted the Democrats’ apparent shift in stance regarding Platner. He expressed, “This is not about any principles… This is about a simple power equation.” According to him, Platner was merely a means for the left to gain power, emphasizing that their only principle seems to revolve around that power.
