Wrapping Up Another Season of “Hacking”

The latest season of “Hacking” has come to an end, leaving the curtains down on another engaging run.

Dan Bukatinsky, who portrays Rob, the executive producer of “Late Night with Deborah Vance,” shared his reflections on the recently concluded fourth season. At the 2025 Astra Awards, the 59-year-old actor mentioned that the friendships he formed with Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder were among his most cherished memories from the experience. “Getting to know them both, on and off camera, was truly a dream,” he expressed.

Bukatinsky explained that a significant part of his role involved balancing the dynamics between the two lead characters. While he has his own kids, he found it meaningful to tap into that fatherly aspect for his character. The camaraderie on set was particularly strong, he noted, highlighting the supportive community around the production.

The series focuses on the relationship between Deborah Vance, played by the iconic 73-year-old Smart, and 30-year-old Ava Daniels, portrayed by Einbinder, as they navigate their professional and personal lives together.

Filming was fast-paced, with the cast often juggling multiple episodes simultaneously. Bukatinsky described their downtime in a green room where they would share tea, snacks, and life advice, creating a tight-knit atmosphere.

The show’s fifth season has already been confirmed, with Smart recently mentioning that she feels it’s an appropriate time to conclude Deborah Vance’s storyline. “We’ve had five seasons, and I think that feels right,” she stated. “You want to leave while people still want more.” Her performance has earned her accolades, including two Golden Globes and three SAG awards for outstanding achievements in comedy.

Bukatinsky, meanwhile, expressed a desire to branch out into different roles. “I’ve been wanting to play the villain,” he remarked, considering roles that would allow him to explore darker characters. He also showed interest in collaborating with actors he admires, hoping for more opportunities in crime thrillers.

Reflecting on his past projects, he mentioned how impressive the craft service was on the set of “The Post,” directed by Steven Spielberg. “That was like dining in a fine restaurant daily,” he recalled, impressed by the quality provided on such a high-profile film.

When not busy with his acting career, Bukatinsky enjoys watching Bravo’s “Housewives” shows, admitting to being a long-time fan. He has connections with some of the cast members and finds joy in following their stories. “I’m rooting for all the women,” he shared, emphasizing the enjoyment he gets from the unfolding drama.
