Dan Le Batard gives Jake Paul 30 minutes.
Le Batard, a sportswriter-turned-radio host, joined the YouTube star-turned-boxer after it was announced that Paul will face 57-year-old Mike Tyson in a boxing match that will be streamed live on Netflix. He had harsh words for Paul.
“Jake Paul, you’re an idiot. You’re going to get knocked out,” he said. “Dan Le Batard Show with Stagots” on Thursday. “Unless Mike Tyson is nice to me, I don’t have a chance in this fight.”
Le Batard didn’t stop criticizing Paul there, calling the 27-year-old “terrible.”
“Mike Tyson would be generous if Jake Paul would allow him to spend 11 seconds with him in that ring,” Le Batard said. “Even at this age, Mike Tyson is a fighter. Because it’s not even a fraction of that.”
The fight with Tyson probably represents the most legitimate test of Paul’s career, even if it didn’t mean much.
Paul has been brash and vocal about his entry into boxing, but early in his career he chose his opponents carefully.
His early matches were against fellow YouTuber and former NBA star Nate Robinson before turning into a former MMA fighter.
Paul lost a split decision to boxer Tommy Fury in his first real professional fight.
But no fighter has the punch or professional pedigree of Tyson, who has a record of 50-6-0, 2 losses and 44 KOs, and held the undisputed heavyweight championship belt from 1987 to 1990. . His legend grew when he became the first heavyweight boxer to hold the WBA, WBC and IBF titles simultaneously.
“Iron Mike” most recently fought Roy Jones Jr. in an eight-round exhibition in 2020, which featured a duel between Paul and Robinson.
“Mike Tyson is an old man, but Jake Paul has never been beaten by a fighter like this,” Le Batard said. “Mike Tyson would be the overwhelming favorite to knock out Jake Paul if he wanted to.”
The fight between Paul and Tyson will be streamed live on Netflix from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on July 20th.
It is unclear whether Le Batard will still participate in the tuning.
